My Grandfather's Obituary

Tipton - HERBERT HOOVER LINDLEY, 77, a former resident of Memphis, TN, died at his home on January 16, 2007. Herb, as he was known to everyone, was a loving, generous husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. A member of Anchor Baptist Church, he loved the Lord and never met a stranger without finding some way to share his faith and encourage them in some way. He was born in Crawfordsville, AR on May 21, 1929. He grew up a sharecropper's son and learned early the value of hard work. In 1950, he began running a laundry route for Loeb's Laundry, which he continued after moving to Memphis in the early 1950's. His employment and relationship with Loeb's would endure for over forty years until his retirement in 1991. His roots as a farmer's son never died, and he knew he wanted to retire in the country. In 1980, he purchased an old farmstead in Tipton County with his wife, Kathy, which, after a little historical research, he named "Maple Hill Farm". He transformed the overgrown farm and dilapidated house into a comfortable and beautiful home that was enjoyed by his many friends and family. Herb died peacefully at "the farm", a final prayer answered by His almighty and merciful God. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Katheryn Marie Lindley; four daughters, Diane Nuckolls of Memphis, Brenda Langley of Chandler, AZ, Danita Adamec of Reading, PA and Hope Van Epps of Washington, DC; three sons, Bruce Lindley of Huntersville, NC, Scott Lindley of Huntsville, AL, and Bryan Lindley of Millington, TN; five sisters and two brothers; 12 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Naomi Jean Sanders in 1958; his parents, Jim Ed and Iva Lindley; and a brother, Jay Lindley. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday, January 19 at Munford Chapel, and the funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, January 20 at Munford Chapel, with the burial at Woodhaven Memorial Gardens immediately following the service. Life comes full circle for me.....

Today I attended the church that I grew up in, for the first time in about 15 years or so I guess. My grandmother asked us to go with her, so how could I refuse. It had not changed one bit since the way that I remembered it. It is the second week in a row that I have gone to church. That is definitely a good thing. Back to work tomorrow, I get a raise on Tuesday. I will finally have a little extra money when I get my next check on the 19th. It is so nice to have a steady stream of income again. I am planning on selling some more eBay stuff, so that will help out with the savings plan. Wayne Gretzky was just named the new coach of the Phoenix Coyotes, so that means I will have to go to see another game in Nashville since I have never met The Great One. The Predators just signed Paul Kariya, so that is another reason to check out some hockey. Well, I think that is all that I can think of at the moment. Until next time.....
