Here is an article about the University of Memphis Fanfest that I ended up in!!!! I thought that it was kind of cool!!!! Looking forward to football and fall weather, it has been too hot this month!!!! Tiger fans' hopes can't be doused this early By Geoff Calkins Sunday, August 26, 2007 Saturday, late afternoon, several dozen Memphis football fans are huddled under a small, merchandise tent, driven there by the rain. They ponder the larger significance of this. After weeks of dry, blazing days, why did it rain -- no, pour -- on Memphis' Fan Day? It must be a bad omen. There's no other way to interpret it. "Not at all," said Jonathan Nuckolls , one of the sodden fans. "It's a metaphorical rain. It washed away last year." Nuckolls grinned at his own spin. A little rain can't dampen a true fan's optimism this last football-free weekend...

Well, it has been quite a while since the last time that I have written an entry. Needless to say, things have been extremely hectic. I got a new job that I absolutely love and have been at for over 3 months. It is actually a place where I can move up. I verify worker's comp claims on the phone all day. Pretty easy actually. Anyway, I have great benefits including insurance. They also offer tuition assistance after 6 months, so I hope to begin work on finishing my degree. On to the Carbs in the title.....I got a kick in the gut on April 17th. I found out that I have Type 2 diabetes. A little background: My brother was diagnosed with Type 1 roughly a month earlier(he almost died) and I was messing around with his glucose meter and the reading was 433!!! I did not think much of it at the time because I had just eaten a lot of pasta. I started to feel really bad and with the encouragement of a co-worker(her husband is diabetic) I made a doctor's appointment. This was on April 12th...

This is something that was in my grandfather's funeral program that he wrote. I thought that I would share it because it is very insightful. He only had a sixth grade education but was definitely equipped with a PH.D. in the school of life. I will miss him greatly, but I am proud to say that he was my grandfather. I will write more about him and the funeral later and also my last 3 plus years and everything that has happened. I included a picture of all of my Papaw's grandsons. I am the oldest of all the grandchildren. THE TEN THINGS A MAN CAN BE by Hebert Lindley 1. He should be a good servant to God - Matthew 22:37-39 Because God loved us first, He should be first. John 3:16 2. He should be a good father and replenish the earth with loved ones. Luke 12:15, Mark 8:36 3. He should be a good friend to everyone; for "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." John 15:13 4. He should ask God to help him find his talent, and do the...

Tipton - HERBERT HOOVER LINDLEY, 77, a former resident of Memphis, TN, died at his home on January 16, 2007. Herb, as he was known to everyone, was a loving, generous husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. A member of Anchor Baptist Church, he loved the Lord and never met a stranger without finding some way to share his faith and encourage them in some way. He was born in Crawfordsville, AR on May 21, 1929. He grew up a sharecropper's son and learned early the value of hard work. In 1950, he began running a laundry route for Loeb's Laundry, which he continued after moving to Memphis in the early 1950's. His employment and relationship with Loeb's would endure for over forty years until his retirement in 1991. His roots as a farmer's son never died, and he knew he wanted to retire in the country. In 1980, he purchased an old farmstead in Tipton County with his wife, Kathy, which, after a little historical research, he named "Maple Hill Farm". He...

My mom just called and said that my Papaw has passed away. I now only have one grandparent left, but none that are blood relation. My mom's mom died when she was 9. Also, I still do not have a job. Please pray for me and my family. It looks like this year is starting out to be like last year. More as I find out about funeral arrangements.
