Carbs, Concerts, and feeling like crap.....

Well, it has been quite a while since the last time that I have written an entry. Needless to say, things have been extremely hectic. I got a new job that I absolutely love and have been at for over 3 months. It is actually a place where I can move up. I verify worker's comp claims on the phone all day. Pretty easy actually. Anyway, I have great benefits including insurance. They also offer tuition assistance after 6 months, so I hope to begin work on finishing my degree.
On to the Carbs in the title.....I got a kick in the gut on April 17th. I found out that I have Type 2 diabetes. A little background: My brother was diagnosed with Type 1 roughly a month earlier(he almost died) and I was messing around with his glucose meter and the reading was 433!!! I did not think much of it at the time because I had just eaten a lot of pasta. I started to feel really bad and with the encouragement of a co-worker(her husband is diabetic) I made a doctor's appointment. This was on April 12th. That day I had to totally change the way that I eat and live. No more cokes, only diet drinks! Coke Zero is not bad though, it actually tastes like Coke.
I passed out twice and was rushed to the emergency room on April 15th. The doctor at the ER said that it was because I went from eating whatever I wanted to basically eating salads. I got the official diagnosis on the 17th, and the doctor prescribed me some Metformin to try and make my body use the Insulin in my system. Well, it is almost a month later and I am still feeling bad! I have a diabetic education class on Wednesday where they teach you to eat and do other things. I think that will help me understand things better. I am also going to an endocrinologist on June 4th. Hopefully they will b able to get me regulated. I have missed 5 days of work the last month, which is more than I usually miss in a year. My blood sugar is very high on occasion which exhausts me and makes me useless. I suspect that I have been diabetic for a long time and not known it. I never had any energy, even though I was sleeping many hours and taking multi-vitamins. Pray that all of this works out and I can get this one an even keel. I am tired of feeling like crud.

On to the concert......Justin and I went and saw Tool play at the Desoto Civic Center on Tuesday night. It was incredible. I had seen them before at the Coliseum five years ago, but I think that they were many times better at this show. I do not think that there is another band that is as fundamentally sound as they are. The visuals were as much a part of the show as the music. They had great lasers and awesome movies in the background. Tool sounds better live than they do on the CD. I would love to see them again. I did not get a shirt because they were $43!!! You can buy the same shirt on eBay for $12.99!!! I love the band and all but it is not smart economically. to pay that much for a t-shirt. As much as gas is these days, I do not have much disposable income.
I think I have rambled enough but have several things to sum up.....Hockey season is over for me(bummer)......The Yankees suck, but when you have ARod(Mr. April) what do you expect......Spider 3 was disappointing......Blood Diamond, The Prestige, and The Departed are three of the best flicks I have ever seen(Leo has come a long way from Growing Pains and Titanic).....Rocky Balboa and Employee of the Month were not as bad as I thought. That's all for now. I am going to try to be more regular with this. Hopefully I will get the diabetes in line and be able to do some living. Maybe even some dating?!?! OK baby steps.....
Nucksy (Blood Sugar 216 this afternoon...ugh!)
