Bowl Bound Again!!!!!!

Eight starters lost to injury this season......Your 4th string quarterback(also your No. 1 receiver) throwing for a -3 yards passing for the whole game in a must win final versus Marshall. Sounds like a recipe for a 2-9 team or worse doesn't it? Well, not for the University of Memphis Tigers!!!!
Yesterday, Dad and I were among the 46,000 or so fans at the Liberty Bowl that witnessed one of the greatest feats in the programs history. A third straight season in which the team will go to a bowl game, following a 26-3 victory over The Thundering Herd from Marshall. This 6-5 season was probably the most sweet of the three due to the incredible injuries that started to mount on the 3rd play of the season when 1st string quarterback Patrick Byrne broke his leg, and continued until Maurice Avery, the team's #1 wide receiver and senior, was pressed into service behind center and the offense was modified for him.

Let me give you a little background about The University of Memphis' illustrious football tradition. Well, that is pretty much it LOL, until now. Head Coach Tommy West has turned the negative thinking that was so much a foundation of past seasons and infused his infectious personality.
The 16 seniors that were honored can be proud of the foundation that they have built for this team's future. Among them, DeAngelo Williams is probably the best player to wear the blue and gray and should be a finalist for the Heisman Trophy. He is already one of three finalists for the Doak Walker Award, given to t
he best running back in the country. He is rated as a high first round draft pick in the 2006 NFL draft, and is a class individual. The University will retire his number next season, which was really a no-brainer. He is the NCAA all time leader in all purpose yards, and ranks 4th all time in rushing yards. I never thought in my lifetime that I would write those words about a football player for the Tigers, we have always been a basketball school primarily.Senior place kicker Stephen Gostkowski, who originally came to school to play baseball(and still does) boomed four long field goals. The longest of them was a 53 yarder that was also a school record.
We will find out this week where we go and who we play but no one
really cares, we are estatic to be going to another bowl game.I also saw Martin Fletcher at the game, and he sat and enjoyed the first half half with us. I was fortunate enough to go to two games this season, and they were both victories!Go Tigers Go!!!!!!
